Common Questions About Delta-8

Common Questions About Delta-8

Delta-8 is seemingly everywhere right now, but what is it, and why is it so popular? Let’s answer some FAQs about delta-8.

What is Delta-8?

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as delta-8 THC or simply delta-8, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that reacts with the endocannabinoid system, producing a high effect.

Is Delta-8 Legal?

Delta-8 was federally legalized in the United States through the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill legalized the creation, distribution, and recreational usage of all naturally occurring cannabinoids, aside from delta-9, for those over the age of 21.

Although delta-8 is federally legal, make sure you are educated about the specific laws surrounding it in your state to avoid running into any problems.

How is Delta-8 Different From Delta-9?

You may be wondering how delta-8 differs from cannabinoids like delta-9. The main difference between delta-8 and delta-9 comes from the fact that delta-8 has a double bond on the eighth position on the carbon chain of its molecule, whereas delta-9 has a double bond on its ninth carbon atom.

Many users prefer delta-8 to delta-9 because, as previously mentioned, delta-8 is federally legal. This means delta-8 products are federally regulated, which can provide a certain peace of mind.

Delta-8 also produces a different effect on the body than delta-9. Many users refer to delta-8 as “weed light” because it is much less psychoactive.

How Strong is Delta-8?

This question does not necessarily have a one-size-fits-all answer. Everyone experiences cannabinoids differently based on their physical makeup and unique endocannabinoid system; however, users will often say that it’s about half as potent as possible delta-9. Although, more experienced users have been known to find it stronger at first, having a tolerance built up against delta-9 but not delta-8.

How Long Does it Take to Feel the Effects of a Delta-8 Product?

This will depend on a number of different factors, including your physical makeup, tolerance level, and the amount you ingest; however, generally speaking:

  • When vaped, delta-8 can be felt almost immediately, with the full effects taking place roughly 20 minutes after consumption.
  • Edible delta-8 products usually take at least 60 minutes to start taking effect and will reach full effect after 120 minutes.
  • Sublingual (tinctures) delta-8 will take about 45 minutes to start feeling any effects with full effects after 90 minutes.

How Long Do the Effects of Delta-8 last?

Vaped or smoked delta-8 will usually last about three hours after consumption; however, If you are looking for long-lasting effects, delta-8 edibles typically last much longer, with users still feeling a buzz around 6-8 hours after consumption. Again, this will vary from person.

What Are the Benefits of Delta-8?

There are many benefits associated with delta-8, some of the most well-known being:

  • As previously mentioned, delta-8 has been legalized in most U.S. states and is, therefore, more easily accessible than other kinds of THC like delta-9.
  • Delta-8 has been known to produce a much less intense high than delta-9, and many

describe the high as euphoric, light, and energizing. This makes Delta-8 a good fit for those who may be trying cannabis for the first time.

  • Delta-8 can help to relieve minor pain and aid in sleep disorders and digestive issues.
  • It is known to have a lower psychotropic potency than Delta-9, which could appeal to those looking for pain relief and less of a psychoactive experience.
  • Delta-8 is cost-effective to produce and process, potentially making it a cheaper option for customers as well.

Can I Consume Delta-8 and Still Pass a Drug Test?

You may have heard from a friend that you can pass a drug test after consuming delta-8, but is there any truth to this claim?

The truth is, most drug-testing services are not sophisticated enough to distinguish between delta-8 and delta-9, meaning delta-8 metabolites (what your body processes things into) may give a false positive for delta-9. Additionally, many delta-8 products have trace amounts of delta-9 that could also flag a positive result on a drug test.

While we can’t definitively conclude whether or not consuming delta-8 will lead to a positive drug test, it’s probably best not to take your chances.

Why Haven’t I Heard Much About Delta-8 Until Recently?

Delta-8 was only recently popularized about a year after it was legalized. As it has become more popular, better techniques to produce a pure and highly potent oil have been developed.

Does it Matter Where My Delta-8 Comes From?

You shouldn’t get your delta-8 from just anywhere. As with anything you put into your body, you must be mindful of what’s in your delta-8, how it’s made, and where it comes from. Delta-8 products that are produced in unregulated makeshift labs by inexperienced technicians can contain harmful solvents or side products. High-quality labs have quality control procedures to make sure that their products are always safe for consumption.

How Can I Be Sure my Delta-8 Product is Safe?

With the sea of delta-8 products available on the market today, how can you be sure you’re getting a good product? It turns out there’s a pretty simple way to distinguish safe, lab-tested products from the rest. Never buy a delta-8 product that doesn’t come with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). A COA is a record showing that a company has thoroughly tested its product to make sure that it is what it’s advertised and that there are no harmful contaminants in the product. See Elyxr’s COA’s here.

He originally worked at a marketing tech company in Boston doing email marketing and SEO display ad campaigns (where he helped to create the content for those emails and banner ads for clients) before going full time as a freelance writer in 2017.

It all started working with clients in the vaping industry in 2013, where David got his opportunities to do more freelance work for that industry the following year because of his success with helping those clients with emails and ads. And, which led him writing for the hemp industry too, as he had already been an avid cannabis enthusiast going all the way back to 2011.

Because of his extensive knowledge and legit passion with non-psychoactive and psychoactive cannabinoids, coupled with his better understanding of shrooms (mushrooms) since 2015, and the kratom/kava industry since 2019, it has allowed him to create some of the most remarkable, out-of-the box, and informative content in the industry.

Even today, David still keeps on top of what’s happening in the cannabis, shrooms, and kratom/kava industries, like new research and data studies, wellness trends, legality, and emerging cannabinoids and strains, in order to supply the most up-to-date, precise educational, fun, and engaging content. That way, new and experienced users alike can really understand what this amazing industry has to offer while still being fully informed.
