What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC (delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid in the hemp plant. It’s a trace cannabinoid that makes up about 0.1% of the plant’s chemical composition. Delta 8 naturally results from the oxidization of delta 9 as the hemp plant ages. It’s also one of over 100 cannabinoids present in the hemp plant’s flowers.

Is Delta 8 THC Intoxicating?

Delta 8 THC is an intoxicating cannabinoid. Its high is described as relatively mild, while being calming to the mind and relieving to the body. Because it’s a fairly mild cannabinoid, it’s often recommended as a great starting point for anyone who’s new to the psychoactive compounds in hemp.

What Other Kinds of Effects Can Delta 8 Offer?

Besides its enjoyable high, delta 8 THC may have:

  • Anti-nausea effects
  • Appetite-enhancing effects
  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Analgesic properties
  • Anxiolytic properties
  • Sleep-enhancing properties
  • Neuroprotective properties

How Does Delta 8 Compare to Delta 9?

Delta 8 THC is a byproduct of delta 9 THC. As the hemp plant’s buds age, a small amount of delta 9 is converted into delta 8 through oxidization. During this process, the cannabinoid loses some of its potency, which is why delta 8 is said to be about 30% less intoxicating than delta 9. Delta 8 also seems to offer a more clear-minded high than delta 9.

How is Delta 8 THC Made?

Delta 8 THC is naturally present in the buds of the hemp plant. But, the amount is so trace that to extract a meaningful amount of it would be a laborious and costly process. So instead, companies turn to a process called isomerization. All cannabinoids are isomers of one another, as they all come from CBG (cannabigerol), the “mother cannabinoid” which exists in immature hemp crops. CBG eventually splits off into over 100 cannabinoids.

Isomers are compounds that have the same molecular makeup, but a different molecular structure. Rearranging the molecules in CBD (cannabidiol), the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp, converts it into delta 8 THC.

How Old Do I Have to Be to Purchase Delta 8?

In order to purchase delta 8 THC, you must be at least 21 years of age. This is the law, and at Elyxr, we will not sell delta 8 products to anyone below the legal age.

Is Delta 8 Legal?

Delta 8 THC is a federally legal cannabinoid, as it complies with federal law which states that all hemp products containing a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC may be sold legally. But, 19 states have banned delta 8 products, along with all forms of THC, which means that you cannot purchase delta 8 THC either online or in person if you live in:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Hawaii
  • Maryland
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Utah
  • Washington
  • Vermont

Is Delta 8 Safe?

Like all cannabinoids, delta 8 THC is nontoxic to the human body. This means that even in relatively high doses, it does not cause toxicity. However, because it is intoxicating, it may cause impairment that could make certain activities dangerous, like driving a car, or handling a sharp object. Because of that, we urge you to use delta 8 responsibly.

Is Delta 8 Capable of Giving Me Side Effects?

While delta 8 is nontoxic, it may still cause some mild, temporary side effects, especially if you’re a beginner, or if you take more than the recommended amount. These side effects include:

  • Dry mouth (“cottonmouth”)
  • Dry eyes/bloodshot eyes
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Anxiety/paranoia
  • Grogginess/drowsiness/fatigue
  • Impaired motor skills
  • Increased appetite

Are the Delta 8 Products at Elyxr Lab-Tested?

Every product that we carry at Elyxr has undergone extensive third-party testing. We work with a laboratory that has been authorized by the state to test samples of hemp products for purity, safety, potency, legal compliance, and chemical composition. Our lab reports are easy to access on our website, in order to assure our customers that we’re selling only top-shelf delta 8 products that are safe, effective, and completely legal.

Can I Give Delta 8 to My Pet?

While delta 8 THC is generally well-tolerated by adults, you cannot give the cannabinoid to your pets. CBD may be a popular cannabinoid for cats and dogs, but because delta 8 is intoxicating, it can be highly dangerous, and even cause long-term damage to their systems. Please do not give delta 8, or any intoxicating cannabinoid, to animals.

How Much Delta 8 Should I Take?

At Elyxr, all of our products come with clear dosing instructions on their labels. Please follow these directions to ensure that you’re taking the appropriate amount. If you’re a beginner with no tolerance to the effects of THC compounds, then you may decide to take half the recommended dose.

Can I Mix Delta 8 with Another Cannabinoid?

Yes, you can! Many of our customers like to “mix and match” cannabinoids to explore a totally customized hemp experience. In fact, we offer products that already contain cannabinoid blends – in other words, products that contain delta 8 plus other cannabinoids. Keep in mind that each cannabinoid is unique in terms of its effects and potency. In other words, if you’re new to psychoactive cannabinoids, mixing delta 8 with a cannabinoid that’s extremely intoxicating, like THC-P, may get you more high than what your tolerance is prepared for.

What if I’m Not Happy with My Delta 8 Product?

If you’re unhappy with your Elyxr delta 8 purchase, please contact us within 30 days of receiving your order. We offer a 100% guarantee on all products, and we handle returns and refunds on a case-by-case basis. We value our customers, and we will work to come up with a solution that leaves you satisfied.

How Should I Store My Delta 8 Product?

All hemp products should be stored in a dark, dry, and cool area of the home – like a cabinet, drawer, or closet. Also, products should be kept airtight when not in use. This is to prevent the cannabinoid from oxidizing, which causes it to degrade and lose its potency. Delta 8 products that are made with a delta 8 distillate (extract) have a shelf life of about 2 years when stored properly, while flower-based products are good for about 6 months.
