Why is Delta-8 Oil Clear?

Why is Delta-8 Oil Clear?

Hemp naturally has a deep green color, so why is delta-8 oil made from a naturally occurring cannabinoid clear? Keep reading to find out.

What is Delta-8?

In order to understand why delta-8 oil is clear, we first need to understand what delta-8 is. Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the hemp plant.

How is Delta-8 Made?

Typically, cannabinoid concentrates like delta-8 are produced through a process called extraction. Ethanol is typically used to extract the cannabinoids from the plant material (usually hemp or cannabis).

After extraction, manufacturers are left with a tincture consisting of cannabinoids dissolved in alcohol or ethanol. Cannabis tinctures have been used medicinally for hundreds if not thousands of years, and are usually applied under the tongue to be absorbed sublingually.

In order to continue towards a more concentrated extract, manufacturers will then heat the tincture to cook the alcohol off. After the alcohol is cooked off, the more concentrated oil left behind is considered crude oil. This can also be referred to as Rick Simpson Oil (RSO), which is famous for its use during cancer treatment.

To make the product even higher in purity, manufacturers will then distill the crude oil. This process is the same as the distillation used in alcohol distilleries, where a substance is separated by boiling off ‘fractions’, then condensing these fractions, resulting in a highly pure substance.

Finally, with a highly purified cannabis or hemp concentrate, the oil is ready to be converted to delta-8. This is typically completed by adding acid and heat. To finish the process off, the reaction products are redistilled and purified by using a brine wash or chromatography.

Why is Delta-8 Oil Clear?

Delta-8 oil is clear because it is so high in purity. If you notice that your delta-8 oil is of a more pink or amber tone, this means that there are likely impurities in your oil, although these impurities are not always unsafe.

Additionally, all pure delta-8 oil is clear, but not all clear delta-8 is pure, which is why it is so vital to always get your hemp products from a trusted distributor who prioritizes quality control. It is possible to strip the color out of delta-8 using clays and carbons, and bleach is never used to strip delta-8 of its color, that is a myth.

Keep in Mind

So, is clear oil always the best oil? Well, not exactly. When the oil comes directly from the natural plant, yellow or brown colored oils are perfectly normal and sometimes even the best kind.

Cannabinoids and the products made from them can be used for a huge variety of purposes. Whether you want something to help you study, or to just have a good time, different cannabinoids have a wide array of preferred uses and individual strengths. Additionally, every person has a unique biology that reacts differently to cannabinoid products. In fact, cannabinoids work together in your body to provide the full effects, so it can be beneficial to have many different cannabinoids in your oil. This is called the Entourage Effect, where cannabinoids work synergistically to modulate the effects of cannabis in the endocannabinoid system.

As mentioned above Rick Simpson Oil or RSO has hundreds of compounds from cannabis, which is considered to be one of the reasons that it works so well. However, this is not true for delta-8. Delta-8 starts as a highly pure product, usually pure cannabis or hemp oil. If the conversion process is not done by a highly skilled laboratory, you can also make side products that result in impurities.

High-quality labs produce ultra-high purity delta-8 oil every time, which is evident in appearance. If a delta-8 oil has a strange color or odor to it, it should not be consumed and was likely produced in a low-quality lab.

So while cannabis concentrates often have ‘impurities,’ they come directly from the cannabis plant, which has been tried and tested over thousands of years. Delta-8 impurities could be anything, primarily since differing labs use vastly different methods to complete the conversion.

Why Use Delta-8 Oil

So now that we have discussed what delta-8 is, how it’s made, and why its oil is clear, let’s go over why so many people choose to use it.

  • Delta-8 is thought to be a neuroprotectant- Research has shown that delta-8 can help the brain to produce acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for cognition, memory, arousal, and neuroplasticity.
  • Delta-8 has analgesic properties- These properties mean that delta-8 can help to relieve pain, particularly in those with neuropathic or inflammatory pain.
  • Delta-8 can stimulate the appetite- This can be a great benefit for those who struggle to reach their daily nutrition goals.
  • Delta-8- can help to relieve anxiety- Due to the way it binds to receptors in the brain, delta-8 could be an effective tool for managing anxiety.
  • Delta-8 can help to reduce nausea- This is evidenced by a 1995 study of children undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Over the course of 480 treatments, delta-8 had a 100% success rate at eliminating nausea.

Another key reason many hemp users are flocking to delta-8 is that it is federally legal, unlike its counterpart delta-9, which means that you can have your choice of legal, federally regulated delta-8 products. Additionally, delta-8 is known to be less psychoactive than delta-9, making it a better option for newer cannabis users.

He originally worked at a marketing tech company in Boston doing email marketing and SEO display ad campaigns (where he helped to create the content for those emails and banner ads for clients) before going full time as a freelance writer in 2017.

It all started working with clients in the vaping industry in 2013, where David got his opportunities to do more freelance work for that industry the following year because of his success with helping those clients with emails and ads. And, which led him writing for the hemp industry too, as he had already been an avid cannabis enthusiast going all the way back to 2011.

Because of his extensive knowledge and legit passion with non-psychoactive and psychoactive cannabinoids, coupled with his better understanding of shrooms (mushrooms) since 2015, and the kratom/kava industry since 2019, it has allowed him to create some of the most remarkable, out-of-the box, and informative content in the industry.

Even today, David still keeps on top of what’s happening in the cannabis, shrooms, and kratom/kava industries, like new research and data studies, wellness trends, legality, and emerging cannabinoids and strains, in order to supply the most up-to-date, precise educational, fun, and engaging content. That way, new and experienced users alike can really understand what this amazing industry has to offer while still being fully informed.
