Edibles vs. Smoking vs. Vaping

Edibles vs. Smoking vs. Vaping

With so many new cannabis products hitting the market, ELYXR customers have more choices than ever when it comes to how they get high off of hemp.  But, with more choice comes more confusion for anyone who’s pretty new to cannabis.  With so many gummies, vape carts, disposables, flower, etc. to choose from, how do you know what kind of experience each product type has in store, and which is best for you?

To help, we’re going to take a look at the three most popular kinds of products: edibles, flower, and vapes.  This way, you will know how they differ in terms of the effects they can provide, and in turn, make it easier to choose the product type that makes sense for you.

Delivery Methods: What They Mean and Why They Matter

So, what is a delivery method, and why does it matter?  The delivery method refers to the product type, and how it allows the active compounds to get “delivered” into the body.  Basically, every time you use a cannabis product, it’s absorbing into your bloodstream through a unique channel.  With edibles, for instance, it’s getting absorbed through the digestive system, while smoking flower means that it’s getting absorbed through the lungs.

The delivery method you go with has a lot to do with how you experience the effects of the cannabis compounds – the cannabinoids and terpenes, that is.  So, you’ll want to choose your delivery method widely.

So, time to ring the ‘delivery method bell, and take a closer look at “the big three”!

Edibles

Edibles are any product you ingest, like gummies, chocolates, or even capsules.  They’re tasty, no doubt, but beyond that, they offer a totally one-of-a-kind high.  Mainly, edibles produce super long-lasting effects – 8 hours or so – and this means that you’ll want to be in the right space for a high that goes on for a big chunk of your day (or night).  Also, the effects just feel different – people describe feeling particularly relaxed after eating some edibles, and also talk about a body high that makes them feel like their body is totally free of tension.

Edibles are also unique in how they’re dosed.  Each piece has the same amount of the active cannabinoid, so you can just pop one piece into your mouth and know you’re taking the recommended number of milligrams.

Pros:
  • Longest-lasting effects
  • Powerful, soothing body high
  • Relaxing
  • Easy to dose
  • Delicious
  • Lots of flavors available
Cons:
  • Can take up to 2 hours to feel the effects
  • Can be too strong for those with a low tolerance

Smoking

Smoking cannabis is the OG way to get high, and it’s still the most popular method around the world.  Whether you’re smoking out of a bong, a small pipe, or rolling your nugs up in papers, you really can’t go wrong.  And, with hemp flower, you can get just as high these days, as companies like ELYXR infuse raw hemp buds with psychoactive cannabinoid distillates, which happen to be totally legal.

Flower comes in loads of strains, which is always a big plus, since each strain comes with its own flavor profile and profile of effects, ranging from giggly and stimulated, to sleepy and relaxed.  Basically, you can customize your high however you want, and know you’re getting the purest form of cannabis compounds that exist.  On top of that, companies like ELYXR offer pre-rolls, which provide you with freshly ground flower that’s already been rolled up into papers, making things super convenient – because let’s face it, rolling your own just isn’t for everyone.

One last thing to point out is that flower can be used in a number of ways – it can also be vaped, or even used to make homemade edibles.  But, smoking is still the most popular option by far.  The bottom line is that if you buy flower at ELYXR, you can enjoy it in more ways than one.

Pros:
  • Fast-acting effects (15 minutes or so)
  • Most potent effects
  • Lots of strains to choose from
  • The purest form of cannabis
  • Strongest flavor
Cons:
  • Can be difficult to travel with due to the fact that flower is messy, and a smoking setup can be fragile
  • Shorter-lasting effects than edibles – usually 2-3 hours, tops

Vaping (Vape Cartridges and Disposables)

Finally, we have vapes, which have become unbelievably popular in the last few years.  Vapes are products that contain cannabis vape oil, and like flower, they come in loads of stain options.  They produce vapor instead of smoke, which people say is way easier on the throat, and a lot more discreet, since vapor dissipates into the air quickly without leaving behind a lingering smell.

There are two kinds of vaping products: vape carts and disposables.  Vape carts, aka cartridges, are pre-filled glass cartridges that are disposable, and attach to 510-threaded, reusable vape pens.  Disposables refer to disposable vape pens, which are all-in-one devices that have a pre-filled cartridge permanently attached to a pre-charged battery.  These devices require no maintenance, although some are rechargeable.

Vaping may sound like it’s just like smoking, but that’s not totally true.  Vapor is less dense than smoke, which means that it carries a slightly lower concentration of compounds.  This means that vaping may be a little less potent than smoking.

We gotta mention that vape carts and disposables are super popular, but you can also vape flower.  To do so, you will need a portable vaporizer made specifically for flower, which uses convection or conduction to heat the product within its chamber.

Pros:
  • More discreet than smoking
  • Easier on the throat
  • Lots of great strains
  • Potent effects
  • Fast-acting
  • Very travel-friendly
Cons:
  • Possibly a little less potent than smoking
  • May require some maintenance depending on your setup

He originally worked at a marketing tech company in Boston doing email marketing and SEO display ad campaigns (where he helped to create the content for those emails and banner ads for clients) before going full time as a freelance writer in 2017.

It all started working with clients in the vaping industry in 2013, where David got his opportunities to do more freelance work for that industry the following year because of his success with helping those clients with emails and ads. And, which led him writing for the hemp industry too, as he had already been an avid cannabis enthusiast going all the way back to 2011.

Because of his extensive knowledge and legit passion with non-psychoactive and psychoactive cannabinoids, coupled with his better understanding of shrooms (mushrooms) since 2015, and the kratom/kava industry since 2019, it has allowed him to create some of the most remarkable, out-of-the box, and informative content in the industry.

Even today, David still keeps on top of what’s happening in the cannabis, shrooms, and kratom/kava industries, like new research and data studies, wellness trends, legality, and emerging cannabinoids and strains, in order to supply the most up-to-date, precise educational, fun, and engaging content. That way, new and experienced users alike can really understand what this amazing industry has to offer while still being fully informed.
